Our Story

Rooted in the Rugged Beauty of Colorado

At age 17, Alfred Eames traveled to Spain’s Rioja region, where he was immersed in traditional European winemaking. That experience shaped his perception and lifelong love for wine. He was one of the first to establish a vineyard in Colorado’s North Fork Valley.

Named for its founder, Alfred Eames Cellars adapts and joins old world methods with the rugged terroir of the West Elks to create bold wines with depth, and sense of place. Every bottle is a testament to patience, precision, and the land itself.

The Tasting Room at ZenZen

Even though the winery can be a fun and unique place to visit, it is a working winery, farm and home. It can only be visited during scheduled winery events or occationly by appointment.

So Alfred Eames Cellars has Partnered ZenZen Gardens as the official tasting room location. Cindie (the owner of ZenZen) not only feels passionately about the wine, she provides a beautiful garden location and a tailored immersive wine tasting that creates an experience out of every visit.

ZenZen also has accommodations as well as a whole host of wonderful event throughout the summer.

The Collection

Newly Released Wines

2020 Sangre del Sol

Blood of the Sun, the 2020 Sangre del Sol, is a proprietary blend of many grape varieties usually anchored on Syrah. Bold and expressive, it suggests rich blackberries and, as one sommelier put it, “sketches of Spain.”

2023 Estate Pinot Noir

Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir grapes grown at our vineyard, this wine opens with inviting aromas of raspberry and spice that carry seamlessly onto the palate. It has a light mouthfeel and is soft on the tongue, with flavors of wild strawberries reminiscent of a high mountain meadow. The fruit is well balanced with supple grape tannins, leading to a sustained and confident Pinot finish. Elegant yet expressive, this is a true Pinot lover’s Pinot Noir. Enjoy it alongside lamb, wild game, chicken, white fish, seafood, pasta dishes, smoked cheese and fruit.
